In Mauritius, you have a variety of choice for the kindergartens, primary school and secondary that projects an excellent level of teaching standard in an broad environment which is not only focus on the academic skills but skills such as sports, art and self-awareness.
Northfields High School is located in the northern region of the island in Grand Bay, in the attached zone of Mapou. Students sit for IGCSE exams in Grade 5 and prepare for the International Baccalaureate.
The English-language school has achieved a high success where most of the students end up pursuing their further studies in worldwide universities. Recently, Northfields opened a new library room, arts room and computer & science labs. The sports facilities have been expanded by including a swimming pool, a basketball court, a soccer field and a multipurpose room.
Known mostly under the name of IPS, this school is conveniently situated next to Northfields. It is the only English-language primary school in Mauritius that has been accredited by the Council for International Schools (CIS).
‘Martin Ecol’ette’ is a private kindergarten founded in 1998 who looks after the first education of the children as from 24 months to 5 years, through an active pedagogy based on play.
They welcome children from different mother tongues by exposing them to French and English, taking into consideration one language depending on the parents’ choice.
This kindergarten gets the children to be ready for the primary schools in the northern region of the region and proceed with teaching in a fun way whether it’s French or English.
‘Ecole du Nord’ is a French based school also located in Mapou.
It has a nursery school, a primary school, and a college. The school welcomes children from the age of three up to 6 years old. It is also a member of the AEFE or the Agency for the Teaching of French Abroad and therefore depends on the Ministry of Education in France.
The Mascarene High School will celebrate its 15th anniversary this year and is entering in a new growth stage.
A few constructions have been going since August last year to respond to the increase in staff.
New classrooms, a better covered area for physical education and sports, additional science laboratories, a medical area, and multipurpose room which will welcome the students in excellent conditions and enrich our educational offer.
At the same time, there’s a focus on the digital development, and also on upcoming languages that will bring important changes.
During this school year, the school project will be our main priority and it will act as a guide for our policy and actions for the 2016/2019 period.
Founded in 1953 with resourcefulness of French and Franco-Mauritius parents who grouped in ‘The Associate of Parents and Friends of the College La Bourdonnais’, and it kept on evolving.
In September 1953, about 60 students aged from 5 to 14 yeards old made their official entry to the La Bourdonnais College, house in a rented house at Curepipe road.
In 1961, to able to cope with the increase in number of students, the Company Lycee La Bourdonnais bought a pot of land, Sainte Therese road to build new classes.
As the number of the students kept on growing, the college and the high school opened new doors in Forest-Side in 1971. The primary school remains in the premises of Sainte-Therese Street.
During all these years, France, through their embassy, played an important part in teaching the staff, financially supports the constructions and equipment of the classrooms.
In 2001, the demand for schooling kept on growing and to be able to accommodate this this demand along with the educational challenges of the new millennium, the company Lycee La Bourdonnais built a complex at Gustave Street, Bestel, Forest-Side (nursery and primary schools). The same has been renovated and expanded.
At the beginning of the school year 2017, today’s high school accommodate 1 717 students, from the Grande Section to secondary school.
The University of Mauritius operates under the Anglo-Saxon system and includes 6 faculties which are Arts & Social Sciences, Science, Engineering, Agricultures, law& Administration and Oceanographic Stuides.
The university has also three specialized centers: Center for Information and Technolog Systems (CTIS), Center for Innovative Lifelong Learning, Center for Biomedical and Biomaterial Research.
University of Mascareignes is the fusion between University of Technology and Swami Dayanad Institute of Management. This institution is the fourth public university of Mauritius.
The university proposes four faculties which are Business & Management, Sustainable Development, Engineering and Information & Communication Technologies.
BTS (Brevets de Technicien Superieur) in partnership with the Lycee La Bourdonnais and the Academy of Reunion Island propose BTS Marketing, BTS Management, BTS Computer Science, BTS Bank (on and off), BTS Communication.
Two professional licenses with the Institute of Business Administration of Poitiers: Master in International Management, Master in Accounting & Finance, Master of Economic Intelligence & Strategic Communication, Master of International Business and Master in Business Administration.
The Francophonie Institute for Entrepreneurship prepares around thirty students for a diploma in Advance Professional Studies (DEPA) in Management and Business creation in collaboration with the University of Bordeaux and the University of Rennes.
Vatel, Gradute School of Business & Management, prepares its students to obtain two international diplomas. The business school has achieved a success rate of 96% and ensures their students to get employed fast in the hotel industry globally.
The Technical High School of Flacq, operates under the support of Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD). The school prepares the students for around 3 years for 5 Brevet of Technicians is: Car Mechanics, manufacturing & Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Building.
This Hotel school operates under the guidance of the MITD, and is accessible to students who hold the BAC 2 languages.
The courses are partly in French and the rest is a merger of French and English language. The annual tuitions are around a few tens thousands in rupees.
Obtaining a DTM –Diploma in Tourism Management – at the end of the training, the diploma holds the same value as a French Diploma.

The French Alliance with its multiple branches is specialized to provide in-service training and development of teachers/students in the French language via ‘technical French’ training activities (hotels, catering, business negotiations, etc...).
